Key facts

An upright tree with peeling red-brown bark, suckering to form small stands in woods

White flowers in loose clusters April to May, followed by small acid fruit, turning from yellow to dark red

Its leaves open bronze while it flowers, then turn pale green, and finally yellow and red in autumn
